We’ve all been there. You wake up and see your alarm clock displaying some hour that urges you to just hit that snooze button — over and over and over again. The initial thought of getting out of your nice, warm bed is literally the last thing you want to do. But today, we’re going to change that mindset.
Of course, the hardest part about changing any habit is getting started, right? When you started your fitness journey, keeping consistent was probably one of the biggest challenges you faced. Day after day of giving your all was, to say the least, taxing.
But, you got used to it. It takes 21 days to make something a habit. Now, you probably work out nearly every day without having to think about it — it’s just something you do now.
You can look at waking up early the same way. It’s going to be tough in the beginning, especially if it’s something you rarely do.
But if you channel your motivation to get out of bed at 5:30 a.m. the same way you got it together to hit the gym every single day, you can do this. And with enough time, it’ll just be a part of your lifestyle too.
One of the benefits you’ll experience from waking up early is a lesser chance of missing your workout. If you’re the type who comes home after a long day at work and finds it hard to go to the gym, getting it done early will make it easier. Although you might need a little boost to get through the day (check out our article on that here), you’ll thank yourself later for it.
Secondly, you’re more likely to stick to your diet if you become an early riser. Too many people skip breakfast upon waking up and heading to work, citing their lack of time for the reason. Well, if you wake up, eat a healthy, nutritious pre-workout meal, and head to the gym, you’re more likely to keep your diet in check the rest of the day. You’ve literally reduced your chances of eating junk food simply by starting your day off right.
Those are two of the biggest reasons to wake up early, but some others include having more focus during the day to work at your job and personal projects, increased optimism and satisfaction, and of course, more time to spend with loved ones!
Give it a try! It’ll be tough at first, but you’ll find that it gets easier the more you do it. And, of course, there’s no shortage of positive effects waking up early will have on your life, so what are you waiting for?
